One of the biggest Trackmania websites in France, TM Actu, has started an RPG news compilation series, with Kryw as the author. The articles features/will feature news from the RPG blog and the RPG forum and will further spread the word about RPG. Trackmania superstar frostBeule is one of the first commenters, so that's a good sign ^^.

18 and 19 the 28 October
"Why did you stop TM?"
I needed a break, because I'm very tired of TMN.
Questions by Chazu:
"When did you start building RPG tracks and why?"
In december 1 year ago I have begin to build the Piscine's (pool) track, beacause I wanted to create something new and the Piscine track are only trial. after , in december i have seen a similar track with a mod but this track contained a Closed rooms and nice mediatracker and from there I started designing my new concept with a long story.
"And where do you get your idea's for new RPG maps?"
my spirit but the name of the track in wikipedia or google and I like change the story with my imagination
Questions by HawkGer:
"How do you start building an RPG-track?"
I start to build a big room as reference and I build around example Domnann , I have begin in the tree
"How do you think Rafale contributed to the development of the RPG-style? Would you have been able to come up with a track similar to Sobekite? Would you have started/completed Sobekite without his help?"
at the beginning I had to do with him. but he haven't time and I have started the build lonely and he make the mediatracker
"What was your reaction when fist seeing that other builders also started building in the RPG-style? Did you expect it? Was it your ambition when building your first four RPG's to insipire other builders?"
my first réaction ? oh ! : ) I have test this track and my first impression is : Beeurk ! because the CircuitBase without mod is ugly
"Did you expect the RPG-style to become that popular?"
No , as Piscine tracks I thought is only for fun and impressive most people but has had an explosion 3,4 servers open ect..
"How do you build so fast? You don't need to sleep?^^"
haha I map since the start of TMN I have most astuce to quickly build and I have more imagination when I build so at the moment I build a secret track and in 1 hour I have build 10 000 Coppers , so it is only the experience.
"What do you think about Rafale's newest mod "RPG"?^^"
yes but 1 or 2 texture are strange when you look from afar but the Vegetation are really nice so I think Rafale is a best Modder with Viandox
Questions by Tecfan:
"Why did you put in a multilap start in the Honduras update?"
when you play in Online you can see the mediatracker Intro/In game but no Outro with a simple Start and with a Multilap you can
"Why don't you try to do some advanced MT stuff yourself? You always team up with somebody, but you probably know your way around the MT yourself."
you are a guitarist but why don't yo try to pratice another instrument? So the mediatracker is strange for me and I dislike manipulate this and Rafale/Hubertis/Guiguidu60 have more experience in MT
"Will there be a new RPG from you?"
la question qui tue
"Do you learn English at school?"
Yes, but the Teachers in france are bad : P

I am currently sitting in a fjord in the west-coast of Norway on vacation. There's rain outside, snow on the mountains and not very warm outside. Luckily, Kryw talked to me on MSN, and the day was saved........

Cargo 714
A week ago, Solix released a track called Cargo 714. It's a realistic track, built as a dock, with a huge cargo ship (which is also built realistic with engine rooms and more), a loading dock, cranes, warehouses and a lot of cargo. In my humble opinion, this is one of the best RPG's ever. It's extremely realistic, original, innovative, beautiful and fun to drive and explore. The route is clear, there are helpful hints in some spots and the tricks aren't very hard. Even in small spaces, Solix manages to make good tricks. So much fun to drive around inside the ship, between all the containers and the long, last jump makes this track a real adventure. I strongly recommend driving this track - try it with a friend and drive together, double as fun.

The march of time
For the crowd that likes to drive RPG's in the classical temple-atmosphere, Golo offers new material to drive on with his latest track "The march of time". The adventurous atmosphere in it is being conveyed quite powerful, using dramatic music-clips, sound clips, Egyptian-themed signs and a massive scenery that is build inside huge rooms. Of course the track is also using the GrandeMuraille mod to make the experience complete. I should warn hereby that, when having loaded the mod and the invisible platform texture shows green, one has to restart the game. The track includes one section in which one cannot advance without the invisible texture.
The track is also using a story element. The mission is to reach four ring CP's throughout the temple, each time revealing four numbers which you will need to pass the final task. The difficulty of the tracks is very high. There are several tricky spots which need to be discovered and learned extensively before driving them safe. But, as the author also states, not only experienced drivers can find it enjoyable...patient and determined drivers will have fun too :-)

Mouse in the House
We have seen a rebuild of a kitchen and we are still waiting for the rebuild of Fishy's living-room. But Zulu thought to take it to the next level and rebuilt a complete house. In this track you are playing as a mouse, invading the house and plundering the food-reserves (with ring CP's serving as bites of cheese). There is a lot of cheese in that house, so make sure to look out for it =) The track uses the Wooden Domnann mod which fits quite nicely to the theme. The track style is again very similar to Zulu's previous tracks, so if you know his building-style and like it, definitely try it out!

As always there are a lot of things going on in the RPG world, so here's a little summary from the last few days. We will let you know when these tracks are released, so remember to subscribe to the blog's RSS feed so you always get get latest posts in your RSS reader.
On the fish front there's not only one, but two new tracks in the making. Here's some tempting screens:
This first track is called Area 51 and should probably be out soon. When we beta-tested it, there were not too much work again. This one will probably take you a long time on the first run. You have to look for the way, and the tricks are hard.

This next track, also by fish, is called "Being fish". Here you'll drive around in fish's room I think. You'll go on his desktop, inside his computer, inside his pinball, inside his carnivorous plant and inside his messy book shelf. Some people might hate this mod, and some people might love it. The route is very innovative I can tell you, and it's not too far from release on this one either I think.

In other fish-related news, he has updated his track Il Nome Della Rosa with an easier start and a mod update + some trick updates too. The main reason for the update is probably that we will drive this track in the 5h RPG round race. He has also updated tmCry, because there were quite a bit whining about the "luck parts" when we were driving it in the 4th RPG round race .
Kryw also has two map updates for us. The first map is called Darah, and is a pyramid map with an updated GM mod. So some screens from Darah:

And his second map in the making is called Exceeder. Looks like we're up for a new RPG feeling this time too (yeah, I am referring to Domnann)

Kryw is also planning to MT-update the following tracks: Camelot (also locator update for this), Saqqarah, Honduras, Domnann, + Darah and Exceeder. He will get visit from Hubertis, so I guess they will working hard.
D3mon also chimed in with some new screenshots from his track. Sadly, these were his words: "Unfortunately I'm not motivated enough to finish Frozen Breath"

Without the trackmakers and mod-makers, RPG would not be possible. We want to give authors as much publicity as possible, so here's an interview I did with Kryw just now. Kryw is an 18 years old boy from France, whose first name is John. He was one of the first RPG track makers, and is perhaps still the community's most important mapper. If you read through this interview, I think that you might learn something about the history of RPG, and you might also learn about a new, secret map he is working on ;)

Why and when did you start creating RPG maps?
I started in late 2008. It was after seeing a map more or less similar, but that was not enough developed (Note: Enigmes by Rafale). So I started to build Sobékite with all the experience I had acquired from building my piscines tracks.
So, in the beginning.. Were there any servers which wanted to play your tracks?
Well, I already had my own server at the time, and I tried to spread the concept in an interview with eSport France. It seems to me that RPG Unlimited was opened as a result from that right after.
When you start on a new track, where do you begin? Do you make the scenery first? Do you make all the tricks and then build scenery?
In general I try to imagine an atmosphere for my new map. So when I start a new map I often start at the bottom to avoid the "cuts", and I also do the landscape at the same time. In Honduras, for example the large room, I start with the decoration and then I put the tricks above the landscape. Scenery can inspire, and that's why must not overlook the landscape/scenery.
What is a good RPG track for you? Is there anything you love or hate in RPG maps?
When I connect to a server I look in the beauty of the mod first. If there is one thing that makes me want to play a map the most, it is if there is a small story. The decoration and atmosphere is very important for me, and that the spots/CPs are innovative. Difficulty doesn't bother me as long as the trick isn't too lucky/risky.
Does the name of your tracks mean anything?
Well, Sobékite is the name of a dunegon and a monster in the game "Dark Age of Camelot". Lubantuun and Honduras are names of some Mayan ruins. Saqqarah, Sésostris, Mykérinos and Seila are names of pyramids. Camelot means "castle", and Domnann is a grove in the village of Sylvain in The Dark Age of Camelot.
So, do you still work together with Rafale?
I do not work at all with Rafale, now I work with Huberts. He is making the MT on Camelot now. And also (*drumroll*) on my new map, Exceeder. He also works on the mod of this new map.

What do you think about RPG getting popular? Recently it has become very popular and it is hard to change maps on server because then some people will whine and be mad.. You think it is a good thing that it's getting popular, or did you like RPG when it was more "underground"?
It's good, but we need new mappers who engage in it and does not make the mistake of making a map with repetitive super mod. You need a map with an addictive mod and "new" spots, with blockmixing there are many possibilities. I do think that it is boring to play a map for 15 minutes and then wait 3 hours to change map, but for that reason I am also happy that there are many new servers you can go to.
Do you like to the RPG round events? Is it fun you think?
Yeah it is funny. Especially Round race 2 on Sobékite where I was leading with 30 seconds until the end when I was unlucky, and Hawk and you passed me.

What is your favorite map?
Lubaantun. I love the play, it is so smooth. But I also like Sobékite.. And as for atmospheres, my favorite is Domnann.
Who is your favorite mapper?
My favorite is fish. He is the only one that really surprises with each new track, even if some spots are too random some times.
And who is your favorite player?
HawkGer, he's very cool :)

A few hours ago Domnann was released on TMX. This is not very similar to his old temples, and that's good. I think we have enough temples for now (don't get me wrong, I love them). Anyway, this map reminds me so insanely much about the old kz maps from Counter-Strike if anyone remembers. I'm sure you'll get the same feeling too from playing it or watching the screenshots.
This track has very many jumps, just like Castle of Shadows, only that this track has rough jumps, not smooth. And I quite like that. The route is very clear, nobody at Pixelsport RPG forgot any CPs as far as I know. The only thing I don't like is the multi-lap start, which means that your replay won't get autosaved.
